Hub members and biogs

Ann Baldridge: ann*at*bhfood.org.uk (Treasurer) Over the past 10 years I've become more and more concerned about the way our lifestyles impact on the world around us. Though my work focuses on food, (I work for the Brighton & Hove Food Partnership and the Food Ethics Council), I am interested in the wider transition movement and doing what I can to be a part of the change our society must go through to lead more sustainable, healthier lives.

Simon Brett: acedragonlimited*at*hotmail.com Simon Brett has been nurturing a keen interest in the absurdities of the world in which we live since shortly before he was born. He became a member of the hub because it seemed like the best available opportunity to make a difference.

David Greenop: david*at*greenop.net

Doly Garcia: lu_si_na*at*yahoo.com I founded the Brighton Peak Oil Group, wrote the Brighton Peak Oil Report and keep working on improving the 'Limits to Growth' computer model, that will hopefully be part of the Transition Network Timeline. Involved in theTransport and Energy Groups, and happy to write articles on almost anything Transition-related.

John Bristow: john.bristow1*at*btopenworld.com I have lived in Brighton since August 01, and have had family connections with the city for many years. My work has been in helping leaders, and their teams and organisations, in the private, public and 3rd sector, improve their effectiveness and adaptability to change. I now focus this work on the transition towards sustainability. I also later in life trained as a psychotherapist, using a relatively new, integrative model designed for the health service, and continue this in private practice and a trainer and supervisor.

Jo Nean: magpiefaerie*at*googlemail.com Reconnecting with nature woke me up to some of the problems we are now facing. I came across the Transition Towns movement while traveling round festivals last summer. When I found out one was starting in Brighton I decided to come back early and get involved. I also do a lot of other community and voluntary work in Brighton. I'm keeping a blog about working for TBH.

Kat Neeser: katneeser*at*hotmail.com I used to be a London fashion designer with my own label...and wasn't remotely ethically/eco minded. Something changed along the line and in the last few years I've campaigned with Friends of the Earth, Green Party, Take it Back, run Greenspeak Brighton for a year and now head up the TBH Clothing and Textiles Interest Group. I plan to help replace the concept of SHOPPING with SWAPPING (and remaking/customising)... worldwide, but starting in Brighton!

Maureen Winder: m.e.winder*at*sussex.ac.uk (Information and resources)

Stephen Watson: only.connect*at*mac.com I had an environmental wake-up call after climbing a big hill in the Lake District in 1985 and returned to join the GreenP - I stood as a candidate several times and was very involved for many years. After reading about Peak Oil I decided to change tack - I left my job and sold my house to restart my life in a way that aligned with my principles and getting involved in TB&H is a growing part of that. I'm also involved in other local community groups, my main joy being singing with the Rainbow Chorus, Brighton and Hove's only LGBT choir. I'm often seen in a kilt!

Business & Economics – Martin Grimshaw: business*at*transitionbrightonandhove.org.uk I am the product of an unusual family legacy of environmental awareness and have long harboured an interest in the psychology of change, the impact of our actions and a love for people and planet. I used to be an armchair eco-worrier. Perhaps the seriousness and immediacy of the problems that face us started to hit home, perhaps I just hit thirty and realised that knowledge comes with a responsibility to act. Either way, I have become increasingly impatient for change and become more active on several fronts. I want to get people excited around the idea of the community re-thinking our future city, building a better quality of life, imagining how we would like things to be and feeling empowered. I want to put the fun into fundamental change and to challenge the inertia of habit, fear and the belief that someone else is going to solve this for us.

Health – John Kapp: health*at*transitionbrightonandhove.org.uk

Heart & Soul – Jo Nean: heartandsoul*at*transitionbrightonandhove.org.uk (see biog above)

Liaison with Local Government – Ted Power: localgovliaison*at*transitionbrightonandhove.org.uk I was born into a politically involved family. My father co-ordinated 'WDM' and 'Amnesty International' groups in Crawley and Horsham; my mother collected trophies such as part of the fence at Greenham Common. In my PGCE year, my reading included E.F. Schumacher's "Small is Beautiful", Barbara Ward's "Only One Earth" and Paul & Anne Ehrlich's "Population, Resources, Environment". Although I trained for the Junior/Middle age range, my teaching posts were mainly with adults (in Algeria, Sweden and Spain as well as Oxford and Brighton), focusing largely on ELT. My ELT website extends to local history, and I have been adding pages related to Climate Change. My interest in Local Government is fairly recent, resulting from involvement in my local residents' association The Round Hill Society and efforts to protect the community where I live from unsuitable development.

Chris Callard: webmaster*at*transitionbrightonandhove.org.uk (Website person) I had an environmental wake-up at a talk on climate change by George Monbiot, which made me realise how imminent the dangers are that we are facing. Fortunately this was around the time Transition Brighton and Hove was starting...
