How to use the website/forum

The website is divided into two distinct sections: the main site, with news of transition-related events and resources about climate change, peak oil, etc, which is updated by just a few people (mainly the co-ordinators of each of the transition interest groups, Food, Transport, etc); and the forum, (for which you can register to join discussions and receive updates about what is going on in Transition B&H) which is the place for discussion about Transiton Brighton and Hove by anybody. More about how these both work below.

Website

(If you are the moderator of a group and so want information on how to post to the website, see moderators' notes.)

The main content in the middle column is a list of posts of transition-related events in chronological order, newest at the top. Using the calendar in the right hand column you can see what is on for any particular day or whole month.

Most posts in the centre column have a label/labels which relate to a particular transition interest group (Food, Transport, etc). If you are interested in just a particular transition interest group of Transition B&H, you can see all the posts relating to that group by clicking on the link in the right hand column under 'SEARCH BY LABEL'.

If you are unsure where to find anything on the site, you can always search on a word in the Search box in top left hand corner.

There is a Resources section in the left hand column. Here you will find links to information about climate change, to Ted Power's index of Brighton green organisations, to the Transiton Town network, etc. (If there's anything else you'd like to see here please email the website.

Answers to other website questions:
I've clicked on the 'Sign In' link in the top right of the website to log in to the forum, but it doesn't work
This 'Sign In' link is not the place to sign in to the forum, it is just for editors of the website to sign in. To sign in to the forum, first click on the 'forum' link, and then the 'Log in' link on the main forum page.

"How can I link into Transition network website(s) and Rob Hopkins Blog?"
See the 'Transition Town network' link under Transition Town links in the left hand column.

"Is there a link to Rocks Magazine?"
There is now, in 'Press articles about TBH' under Resouces

"Where is Ted Power's index of local groups?"
See the 'Brighton and Hove green organisations index' link under Related organisations in the left hand column.

Forum

Don't be daunted by the long list of categories in the forum! Clicking on a link to a section (General, Transition Interest Groups, etc) will close off the list of categories in other sections.

If you left your email address at any of the Transiton B&H meetings you will have been registered onto the forum so that we have you on the mailing list. You should have received an email telling you your username and password – if you haven't received this, it might be because it has gone into your Junk mail (especially likely if you have a Hotmail or Yahoo email address). NB: In order to receive messages from the forum, you must have the email address webmaster*at*transitionbrightonandhove.org.uk on your allowed list so that any messages from the forum do not go into your junk mail. Please email the website administrator if you have any problems logging on to the forum.

And if you haven't left your email address at a meeting you can just register yourself on the forum. Click on the 'Register' link at the top of the page.

Make sure you log in to the forum each time you use it – this way all posts that have been written since your last visit will be highlighted in yellow. You can also get a complete list of unread posts by clicking on the 'View posts since last visit' link in the top right hand corner.

Forum categories and Usergroups
Apart from the general discussion categories there are also sections for Transition Interest Groups (Food, Energy, Transport, etc) and Neighbourhood groups (by council ward). These are ways of dividing up the activities of Transition Brighton and Hove into smaller, more manageable groups. Each of these categories relates to a particular Usergroup, a group of Transition members with a particular interest in Food, Energy, Transport, etc, or who live in a particular Neighbourhood. The forum categories are for discussion on the particular subject; joining a Usergoup enables the coordiinator of the group to contact you about future meetings and activities. Please join any Function usergroups you have an interest in, and the Neighbourhood usergroup in which you live (if you are unsure which ward you live in, check on the council ward map here).

To join a usergroup, you first need to be registered on the forum. Then click on 'Usergroups' in the top row of the main forum page, select the group you wish you join, and Subscribe.

How to contact moderators/other members
Email addresses of other forum users are hidden for privacy reasons – but if you wish to contact a moderator or another forum user you can send them a message through the forum. Click on the link for their name, which will take you to their profile page. Then click on 'Email' in the left hand column, which will take you to a form that will send a message to their email address. (Sometimes people have chosen to keep their email address hidden even here – in which case click on 'PM' (Private Message) which will leave a message for them on the forum for next time they log in.)

Answers to other forum questions:
"What is a Forum Administrator/Moderator?"
The Forum Administrator is just one person who looks after the website and forum. Moderators moderate the discussions on individual transition interest group categories, and can email all those in their particular Usergroup about matters relating to the group.

"How do I know who is in the Forum - more specifically the group it is representing (function, neighbourhood, programme action group or hub) - I need to know if I am the co-ordinator?
Anyone can see who is a member of the forum by clicking on 'Memberlist' in the top row of the main page. You can only see usernames on here, not email addresses, though you can send anyone an email through a form on the site, just click on the email symbol next to their name. You can see who is in a particular group by clicking on 'Usergroups' in the top row of the main page and selecting the group.

"As a co-ordinator and/or moderator how can I contact everyone in a group (e.g. have their email addresses)?
See moderators' notes.

Many other questions are answered in the FAQ section of the forum (see link at top of page).
