Introduction To Formal Consensus workshop
Saturday 25 July 10am - 4pm at Lewes Werks
Introduction To Formal Consensus (+ advanced facilitation classes) workshop
Hosted by Nathaniel White, in association with Transition Brighton & Hove... all very welcome.
Ever tried to work with other people and get things done? Ever wondered how it could work better?
Formal Consensus is a simple structure that any group can use to make decisions efficiently and effectively. Learn how to use it to draw out the best possible decisions that harness the diverse creativity and talents of any group. Formal Consensus is an important tool for building sustainable communities, deep democracy and participatory governance.
Formal Consensus emerged as a way of quickly making good decisions among a group of hundreds of loosely affiliated individuals. Formal Consensus has been successfully adopted by forward thinking businesses, intentional communities, and the global activist group Food Not Bombs. Nathaniel White trained with the author of the Formal Consensus manual, C.T. Butler, in 1997. He uses the method in his paid and voluntary work, and contributed to the most recent version of the manual.
There will be an advanced Formal Consensus facilitation class running in support of this introduction class, 9am - 5pm, part of a rolling programme. See website for details -http://www.integrityunlimited.co.uk/advanced-facilitation-program
Contact Nathaniel -white*AT*magicatechne.com - £5-40 sliding scale. Please tell us where you heard about this.

Postponed > Transition South East Gathering in Brighton
Many thanks for all the interest in the South East Transition Gathering. We regret that we have had to postpone the event next Saturday.
We will be working toward holding it in Brighton in October, when hopefully we can generate some more buzz.
Please do sign up to the South East Transition Initiatives (SETI) site, to keep up with future events...it is the only way at the moment for us all to be connected.
http://southeasttransitioninitatives.ning.com/
Although we received some advance bookings, a bunch of intentions to come, quite a few 'maybes', and a handful of heroes stepped forward to help underwrite the event, we felt that the numbers were not sufficient to continue (and expose anyone to the risks of not meeting costs).
It was ambitious to bring this together so soon, and although we sincerely feel a strong need for this type of event, and sooner rather than later, we also recognise that it is summertime and short notice.
With gratitude for all those who committed to this, and to everyone for all the good work being done. See you in October? And for the Transition B&H 2nd Birthday celebrations on 25 July?
Those who have already paid will receive their reimbursement shortly.
Warm regards
Martin, Beth, Mike
...A bit like a conference, but less suits...
@ Friends Meeting House, Brighton
Make space in your diaries for a rare chance to get together for a day with like minded people coming to town from all over the South East to weave stories and get inspired.
It is an opportunity to strengthen our community of Transition initiatives in the South East and to learn from each other. Details to be announced over the coming weeks, but will include Open Spaces for effective dialogue and some connecting with the latest happenings in the Transition Network.
If it's anything like recent gatherings, it should give us a Transition Tickle and help amplify and focus our energy and determination. We need your help to make it successful. Tell people about it and make sure you're there; early bookers will help our finances and be treated as heroes - please contact Martin bookings*AT*transitionbrightonandhove.org.uk / 07891 571739.
Tickets £20 / £8.
Details here - please also sign up to the South East Transition Initiatives network -
http://southeasttransitioninitatives.ning.com/ << your guide to happenings around the South East.
If you are new-ish to Transition, then we would really encourage you to sign up for our 'Introduction to Transition' workshop at the start of the day, included in the price.

'Forum' monthly meeting - all welcome
7.30 - 9.30pm @ The Werks, 45 Church Road, Hove, BN3 2BE (£donation)
This month's 'forum' meeting, where we all get together to discuss issues that concern Transition Brighton and Hove and keep in touch with the work of the various groups, see what support is needed for various projects and people.
The meeting and agenda is open: everybody is welcome and encouraged to come, the agenda is set by those attending, according to their needs.
The Forum meetings are held on the last Wednesday of every month, at the same venue > open your diaries: Wed 29 July, 26 August, 30 September...
See you there?
PS - there is a new self-selected 'active' list for those who want to be involved in issues and decisions related to the day to day running of TBH. It is not intended to be a discussion list, but it might be high traffic, it is probably not relevant for everyone. We would especially encourage everyone who has been somewhat involved for a while, but all are welcome. Your choice.

"it's like, if a tree falls down on your land, or in your street, it looks ... bigger. you drive to work every day, everything's the same, you know where you are. then one day you drive to work and a tree's fallen down and you go, 'fucking hell!' you look at the tree and it's massive. you never notice it until it falls down."

Celebrate Lewes Rd Community Garden + Big Lemon BBQ
Come to the Lemon Party!
(Click on link for Facebook group / flyer)
Join us to celebrate the coming of the summer, the end of term, the creation of the Community Garden, the greatness of everyone you know, or just come for fun!
We are having a vegetarian Jamiaican barbecue courtesy of Akushla the Great Chef at Falmer Bar, and Baba Slips (probably the best band in Brighton) will be livening it up with their best tunes. All live on Brighton's coolest radio station Phonic 88.8fm!
If you're a passenger, this is our way of saying thanks very much for your custom... if you're a friend but as yet a Lemon virgin, this is our way of saying we value your friendship and hope to get to know you better soon... and if you're a neighbour this is our way of saying thanks for putting up with us driving past your house every half hour, and we hope you don't mind us driving past every 20 minutes in the autumn!
The party is free :) but we will ask for a donation for food, and we will be shaking a bucket at some point to raise some money for some more plants and compost to make the garden even more beautiful!
Please tell all your friends, and let's party!
